Program Information

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program is designed to prepare leaders and managers to oversee superior patient care and deliver outstanding value for their organizations and the populations they serve. Our combination of a top-rated medical school and an integrated health care system provide you with an extraordinary learning environment where you will gain hands-on experience alongside critical strategic and operational knowledge.

Program Pace and Structure

The MHA is a self-paced program designed around your life and work. You control the number of courses you take each trimester based on your schedule, work commitments, and finances. Some students take one course per trimester; others take three or four. You must earn a minimum of 44 credits to graduate and schedule your final capstone project during your graduation term (December or June).

Typical timelines

Two years (six trimesters): The most common path. Students take a steady 7–9 credits per trimester, spreading coursework across six consecutive terms. You would enter in Fall, Spring 1, or Spring 2 and graduate the following December or June.

Three to four years: Many working professionals spread their coursework over three or four years, taking 3–5 credits per trimester. This allows more time to balance work, family, and studies.

Accelerated (four to five terms): A small number of students take heavier course loads (9–12 credits per trimester or more with director approval) and complete the degree in 4–5 terms.

Degree conferral

Degrees are conferred three times per year: December 30 (for students completing their capstone in Fall Trimester) and June 30 or September 30 (for students completing in Spring 2). If you complete your degree requirements in December, you will be officially conferred your degree at that time. You are invited to attend the annual commencement ceremony held each June.

Course selection each term

The MHA curriculum is organized by trimester to give you structure and guidance. Within each term, courses are offered in a range of topics and times. You select the courses that fit your schedule, budget, and learning goals. You do not have to take all courses offered in a trimester—only the ones you choose to register for in that term. Continue selecting courses each trimester until you reach the 44-credit minimum for degree conferral (it’s possible to exceed the minimum by taking additional seminars or internship)

What You'll Do

During your time in the MHA program, you will:

• Explore the environments, processes, and structures of health care systems

• Examine evidence-based frameworks for management and value creation

• Apply organizational tools for effective and efficient operations

• Study emerging strategic innovations in health care delivery and management

• Develop core competencies in technical knowledge, strategic reasoning, leadership, and professional ethics

• Participate in a mandatory mentorship program pairing you with healthcare executives and alumni

• Complete a capstone project addressing a real-world management challenge in your organization or a host institution

• Optional: gain field experience through a health care administration internship
