# Internship and Capstone Project

### Internship (MHA 8001)

#### Eligibility

Students without prior health care work experience, or those seeking experience in a different health care setting or management role.

#### Credits and timing

•       Credits: 1–3 credits (determined by the Program Director based on scope and duration of the placement)

•       When: Can be taken in any trimester AFTER the initial term (Fall, Spring 1, or Spring 2) when it fits your schedule

#### How to arrange an internship

•       Meet with the Program Director and APE & Internships Manager to discuss potential placements aligned with your career goals

•       Identify and secure a host organization and site supervisor or preceptor

•       Obtain Program Director pre-approval before registering for MHA 8001

•       Work with your internship supervisor to define learning objectives and deliverables

•       Complete the internship fieldwork (typically 120 hours minimum, depending on credit level)

•       Submit a reflective project or report integrating your field experience with program coursework

Your internship team: You, the site supervisor or preceptor, and the MHA Program Director collaborate to ensure the placement is meaningful and academically rigorous.

### Capstone Project (MHA 8000)

#### Course details

•       Credits: 2 credits

•       When: Your final trimester only, regardless of when you graduate. Your capstone must be completed and passed to graduate.

•       Conferral dates: December 30 (if capstone completed in Fall), June 30 or September 30 (if completed in Spring 2)

#### Project scope

You will design and execute a health care management improvement project that:

•       Addresses a significant operational, financial, or strategic challenge in your employer's organization or another health care host institution

•       Applies evidence-based management methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, project management, financial analysis, etc.)
